You had it, you loved, and you played the hell out of it (at least many of us did). The Nintendo Entertainment System was the center of gaming life for many of our youths and the Crooked Ninja Turtle Gang is no exception. So without further ado, the top 5 NES games that were played to death and then some!
Super Off-Road
Race your friends! Race the computer! Who cares because this game was countless hours of sharp-turns, turbo boosts, and mud holes. Also for the first time EVERRR you can race three of your buddies in head to head to head to head action.Chip 'N Dale Rescue Rangers
Yep, good old Chip and Dale. Not entirely sure what exactly was so incredible about this game to keep me coming back for more, perhaps it was the the fun of throwing apples at robot dogs or "accidentally" killing your friend in multiplayer.Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 Arcade
Beyond the totally radical box art for this incredible game you find one of the best side-scrolling beat-em-up games of the NES era. Like the arcade version you beat down the Foot and face a boss battle at the end of each level. Whether battling through the streets of NY or destroying hordes of the Foot in a burning building this game brought the fun.Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3 The Manhattan Project
Sensing a trend? There were some great TMNT games for the NES without a doubt and even some people enjoyed the first one somehow...somehow. The Manhattan Project brought some new elements to the TMNT game franchise, most notably the "special move" for each of the four turtles like Don's gnarly knockout roll! Shredder decided to hold the island of Manhattan hostage and the green team is on the job.River City Ransom
Oh RCR, you had me at "BARF!". Kick and punch your way through EVERYONE you encounter including your friends if they are also playing. Not good enough? Read some books and learn how to punch so fast it would make Bruce Lee envious. Is that a generic stick? Yes, lets use it to beat people upside the head.Seriously though if you want to try one of the best games created for the NES, look no further than River City Ransom. Oh yeah and read the bar at the bottom while playing, so good fun there.

All of the TMNT games would probably be on my most-played NES game list, especially #2. Also the Mario games (of course) but especially Super Mario Bros. 3. I also played a lot of Dragon Warrior, Castlevania, and Metroid.
ReplyDeleteLet me ask you a question, did you ever beat the first TMNT game? Be honest!
DeleteLol, heeeell no I never beat that shit. I think most people who say they have are fucking liars, tbh. :P A while back I did a post on my Top 10 Favorite NES Game Soundtracks and TMNT got my #1 spot because I spent so much time trying (but ultimately failing) to beat it which means the game's music is permanently burned into my brain.

The first TMNT game didn't make my list simply because it infuriated me so much back in the day. SO MUCH!
DeleteOh and how could I forget Shadowgate, one of my favorites. (Sorry for the double post.)
ReplyDeleteNice list! I used to play the crap out of Super Off Road too! The thing I remember most about my Nintendo is constantly taking the game out and blowing in the cartridge and the system to try to get it to work! I just made a top 5 list of my own. Check it out!
