Picture Book Review: "Bits in Multiples of 8"

Something new here, the Crooked Ninja picture book review! The first book to be reviewed is none other than...

Bits in Multiples of Eight, an 8-Bit - 64-Bit Video Game Fan Art Book

This book was a Kickstarter project created by Jimmy Giegerich and his (and others) love of the classic gaming era, hence 8-64 bit. The original thought was to create a zine for great video game themed art but as the Kickstarter gained momentum what was once a zine grew to be a full fan art book. I jumped in on this early and plunked down $13 for a printed copy and it was certainly a $13 well spent.

The book comes in at around 88-pages of great fan artwork from a host of fantastic illustrators including Jimmy himself. Black and white paged only but a full color cover take away slightly from the book as I know a lot of the artists presented have some incredible color in their work but overall don't make the book any less enjoyable.

The range of styles and themes in the book are varied enough for any fan of video game art and really who reading this isn't honestly? The wild art from Jimmy on the cover is enough to grab anyones attention and the contents will not disappoint upon diving in. This book may become more widely available soon but for now only those lucky Kickstarter supporters are lucky enough to hold a copy (not to gloat too much).
In the end the book gets four out of a possible five crooked ninja stars. The only thing keeping it from the full five is the lack of color pages which I felt would add more to the book and after seeing the original work in full color online.
