Halloween and McDonalds

McDonalds may not have the best reputation for us over the age of 18 but there is one unifying factor for most, McDonalds in October used to be amazing. Every kid in the 80's and 90's (and really the 70's) knew that when October came around good stuff was going to happen when a happy meal was ordered.

Good things like plastic pails that glow in the dark and had opening in the top for use during Halloween night. Good things like plastic versions of chicken mcnuggets dressed in removable Halloween costumes. Good things like receiving a coupon for a sundae while trick or treating. Ahh yes those were the days!
Now I don't think the same enthusiasm is given to Halloween, not from the Golden Arches but in general. Not much in terms of advertising or hype which I think is a mistake because everyone loves Halloween. No love for Halloween makes a crooked ninja sad.

On a bright note in recent years McD's has brought the plastic pail BACK! 2010 saw a Mr.Potato head pail released and last year a more customizable pail with glow-in-the-dark stickers. You can read a bit more about that over at X-Entertainment. Hopefully this year the trend continues and we get an even better version, perhaps even one more likened to the ones seen decades ago!

Fond memories from McDonalds Halloween treats? Let us know in the comments!

  1. In the 80s, Halloween and McDonald's were like peanut butter and chocolate to me. My holiday was not complete without McBoo Pails and costumed McNugget Buddies.

  2. Absolutely. I was trying to remember the different toys they gave out during Halloween over the years, did remember the little animal masks from one year and McDonald Land characters with costumes. Any others spring to mind?

  3. I was actually excited to see a bunch of Hotel Transylvania toys at McDs this weekend. Not sure about the movie itself, but I still bought a Happy Meal to get a creepy hand toy...
